Illuminated Sculptures
I am drawn to partnering my glasswork with materials that come with a personal history, such as suitcases and old functional wooden boxes. Openings are cut out of the cases, then edged in copper and beads. I set my glass panels behind the openings and electrically light them from within. These repurposed frameworks are lovely and sturdy, and they tell a hidden story with echoes of the hopes, dreams and travails of their previous owners. My aim is to invite these reverberations from the past to have new life and expression by using them in combination with my glasswork, creating objects of light, intimacy and intrigue.
