"The Firebird" Stained Glass panel
The Firebird measures 40 inches wide x 41 inches tall x 2.5 inches deep. It is meant to hang in front of a window.
This is one of my earliest stained glass works which I made in collaboration with a woodworker friend in 1977. At the beginning of my glass career I was enchanted by the color and light of glass and wanted to create something that expressed my passion. The glass is hand-blown. A background of pale yellow amber surrounds rich reds and oranges with bursts of blue. I fashioned the piece using the traditional stained glass lead strip method. Faceted glass jewels sparkle in her wings. The unusual redwood frame gives the impression of a tree that holds a magic purple fruit which the Firebird is about to pluck.
